Testimonials

Project Sherlock is an data visualization project inside of Hellogenie used to look for insights in their order processing system. The most compelling feature of InfluxDB for them was the ability to handle the high write throughput of real time data and make it available for instant visualization.
Hellogenie is a “convenience service aggregator” which looks to make everyone’s life easier by doing things that matter. From organizing a surprise birthday party, to finding you the perfect gift. Hellogenie is a logistics platform for both consumers and businesses.

The Nanometrics Apollo Server is a data acquisition software application designed to acquire continuous time-series data, state-of-health data, triggers and alerts from a wide range of remote field digitizers and data sources collecting seismic data. InfluxDB to used to monitor their application and state-of-health data. This gives Nanometrics great insight into how their software is running, identify problems and improve the scalability of their applications.
Nanometrics offers a suite of process control tools to help manufacturers as they shrink designs to sub 30nm nodes and develop robust solutions for vertical IC integration.
DreamHost uses InfluxDB to monitor their network. What do they find compelling about InfluxDB? Its scalability and development momentum.
DreamHost is a web hosting provider and domain name registrar offering vps hosting, dedicated hosting, WordPress hosting, cloud storage and cloud computing.

On one side it has connectors for different versions of Cassandra and on the other it has reporters to send measurements to different tools. One of reporters most commonly used is the InfluxDB reporter, which is a natural choice when it comes to storing time-series metrics. InfluxDB's tagging feature gave SmartCat an easy way of differentiating measurements and creating queries. Also key, was InfluxDB's integration with Riemann and good support in the Java community with a well documented driver.

SmartCat is consultancy company delivering outstanding Big Data, visualization and analytics technical solutions empowering decision makers around the globe.

Scalingo needed metrics (CPU, RAM, network consumption) and their customers needed metrics for accurate decision handling. This was the motivation for Scalingo designing their own metrics infrastructure. This meant collecting, storing and querying relevant data. Learn more about their metrics system in their blog post.

Scalingo is a Platform as a Service with Docker at its heart. They aim to simplify the every day job of web developers regarding hosting, building, deploying and scaling their web applications.

Testimonials

Nordstrom uses InfluxDB to support their company-wide operational metrics needs. What did Nordstrom find compelling about InfluxDB? It was fast, used less space and has rich retention policy support. By leveraging the entire TICK-stack (Telegraf, InfluxDB, Chronograf and Kapacitor), it gave Nordstrom a full life cycle of data management capabilities for their time-series data.

Nordstrom, Inc. is a leading fashion specialty retailer offering compelling clothing, shoes and accessories for men, women and children. Since 1901, they have been committed to providing their customers with the best possible service—and to improving it every day.

Something Digital built a module that integrates Magento, a leading e-commerce platform with InfluxDB. Out of the box, the module pushes a few key measurements about a Magento application's operation such as cron execution, page cache hit rate and product inventory levels. It can easily be extended to store any data that is specifically relevant to the particular Magento store it is implemented on. Something Digital also runs Kapacitor alongside InfluxDB for alerting and Grafana for visualization.

Something Digital is an interactive agency specializing in e-commerce, website design, custom software development, digital marketing, and user experience. By taking the time to assess your unique needs, we are able to offer strategic, creative solutions that help your business succeed.

InfluxDB allowed FireFlies.ai to quickly prototype and reliably store their production data in a time-series database. They deal with a high volume of messages so it was critical to make sure everything was being saved. Querying the data was also easy and fast for them once we started chunking. InfluxDB has proved to be a great product that has been invaluable to FireFlies.ai success.

FireFlies.ai believes relationships are an important part of your life and lead to happiness and success. They provide a cloud based AI which helps keep track of your contacts in email, giving you the information you need at the right time. You can talk to the bot through email (Gmail or Outlook), Facebook Messenger, and Slack. It will provide dynamic reminders, contextual insights, analytics, and time tracker as features.

Announcing InfluxDB 1.0 Beta 3 Plus Cluster Rebalancing in InfluxDB Enterprise

We’re excited to announce the immediate availability of the next beta release of InfluxDB Enterprise!

What’s InfluxDB Enterprise? It’s the software that turns any 0.13 instance into a production-ready cluster. Rebalancing, monitoring, user and system management all with a slick UI, on YOUR infrastructure.

New in today’s release:

Cluster Rebalancing

Now enabled in the InfluxDB Enterprise web UI is the ability to rebalance the underlying data of a cluster as you add or delete nodes with zero downtime.

Backup and Restore

Also in this release, the ability to backup and restore an entire cluster including nodes and shards.

Table-based Data Explorer

Within the InfluxDB Enterprise data explorer tab you can now get a graphical experience closer to the functionality of the CLI, for example the ability to query for non-numeric values.

For more information about InfluxDB Enterprise, check out the original announcement blog. If you’ve already signed up for the public beta, you can download the latest binaries on the InfluxData Portal.

For a quick overview of InfluxDB Enterprise and the new features, check out the short demo below:

Updates to the TICK-stack

In addition to the InfluxDB Enterprise release, also shipping today is Beta 3 of InfluxDB, Telegraf, and Kapacitor 1.0. You can find the packages for them on our downloads page. We’re closing in on the GA date for these three products, so please report any issues as soon as possible. New in this release:

Telegraf

Support for generic webhooks

FIxes and improvements to the LogParser plugin

Plus 14 features and 18 bug fixes

Please note there are a few breaking changes affecting certain plugins

Full details can be found in the release notes.

InfluxDB

1.0 is going to be a big release and so far the changes include:

28 features

Configuration file updates/changes

55 bug fixes

Full details can be found in the release notes.

Kapacitor

Added Telegram as an alerting option

Support for creating combinations of points within the same stream. Similar to a JOIN, but instead joining a stream with itself.

Ability to flatten a set of points into a single point, creating dynamically named fields.

Full details can be found in the release notes.

NTT Communications ICT Australia is a managed service and colocation provider based in Sydney, Australia. They use influxDB to collect metric data throughout their multi-tenant data centers to maintain visibility across diverse hardware and software deployments. In particular they have used InfluxDB to collect metrics regarding config management deployments, ElasticSearch clusters, basic Linux based OS metrics and source control activities. They also use the metrics for capacity planning and monitoring application queue depths.

NTT Communications is a subsidiary of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation, the largest telecommunications company in Japan and one of the largest worldwide.

HealthQ is currently involved in developing a suite of products for LifeQ. LifeQ uses computational systems biology and continuous body monitoring to create an on-demand record of one's personal physiology and health. This enables specialists and organizations to help humans better understand and manage their health over time. HealthQ needed a datastore that was optimized for time -series data, schema-less and fault tolerant. They have been using InfluxDB for the past year and it has enabled them to be very agile in their development approach.

HealthQ Technologies is a high-tech startup company combining skills from various disciplines to provide solutions in the digital health and wellness space.

Essential Technologies' Sensors Connect platform delivers an air quality index collecting ecosystem. Although still in beta, their first customers have already deployed custom portals using LoRa and LoRaWAN to send measurements from nodes over to gateways and network servers. InfluxDB is used to store persistent data for a predefined period of time.

SensorsConnect.com believes that all of us should be responsible for maintaining air quality. That’s why they’ve introduced SensInAir, a solar powered air quality index sensor. You can install it in your backyard or on your balcony and the SensInAir will report results using LoRaWan technology to a centralized server. The information is then consolidated per individual with city wide results available in an easily digestible formats.

TL;DR InfluxDB Tech Tips - InfluxQL Query Examples

In this post we recap the week’s most interesting influxQL query examples, InfluxDB and TICK-stack related issues, workarounds, how-tos and Q&A from GitHub, IRC and the InfluxDB Google Group that you might have missed.

Understanding unexpected fill() behavior

Q: I’m using
fill(0)
in my query but it doesn’t return any results. Is this the expected behavior?

A: If none of your data fall within your query’s time range, your query will return no results - even if your query includes
fill()
. This is how
fill()
currently works but there is an open issue to change that behavior.

For example:

Write one data point:

> INSERT invisible person=7 1467842220000000000
> SELECT * FROM "invisible"
name: invisible
---------------
time                   person
2016-07-06T21:57:00Z   7

Use
fill(0)
and query a time range that includes the point:

> SELECT mean("person") FROM "invisible" WHERE time >= '2016-07-06T21:57:00Z' AND time <= '2016-07-06T21:59:00Z' GROUP BY time(1m) fill(0)
name: invisible
---------------
time                   mean
2016-07-06T21:57:00Z   7
2016-07-06T21:58:00Z   0
2016-07-06T21:59:00Z   0

Use
fill(0)
and query a time range that doesn’t include the point:

> SELECT mean("person") FROM "invisible" WHERE time >= '2016-07-06T21:58:00Z' AND time <= '2016-07-06T21:59:00Z' GROUP BY time(1m) fill(0)

Querying for the latest point in a measurement

Q: I’m trying to find the last point in my measurement. I’ve included the query that I use to do that, but I’m wondering - is there a better way to do this?

> SELECT "dance_id" FROM "ballroom" ORDER BY time DESC LIMIT 1
name: ballroom
--------------
time                   dance_id
2016-07-06T20:26:10Z   103

A: Yes! There’s an InfluxQL function (
LAST()
) that returns the last point in a measurement:

> SELECT last("dance_id") FROM "ballroom"
name: ballroom
--------------
time                   last
2016-07-06T20:26:10Z   103
