ZDNet | InfluxData becomes the embedded IoT database for PTC, adds Azure support

Publication: ZDNet
Title: InfluxData becomes the embedded IoT database for PTC, adds Azure support
Author: Tony Baer

Abstract: In this ZDNet article, Tony Baer explains that PTC is now embedding InfluxData’s time series database, InfluxDB in its ThingWorx IoT. He explains that this is a timely move considering it comes shortly after InfluxDB Cloud’s recent move to support Microsoft Azure. He explains the implications of this transition for both companies, the details of the OEM agreement, and the benefits InfluxData will provide to their IoT services by providing PTC with something they’ve been missing – a “time series database for persisting device data.”

Computing | Cutting fleet car costs with telemetry

Publication: Computing
Title: Cutting fleet car costs with telemetry
Author: John Leonard

Abstract: In this Computing article, John Leonard discusses the usage of telemetry to gain visibility into fleet vehicle usage, citing the example of WayKonect — a startup acquired by French oil company Total. WayKonect has been “working on ways to help organizations optimize their use of fleet cars while also bringing employees with them.” Since it can be hard to keep track of what company vehicles are doing over the lifespan of a typical contract, interest in telematics has increased. WayKonect processes telematics data from fleet vehicles and processes it in a cloud platform rooted in two datastores: time series database InfluxDB and graph database Neo4J.

Author: Aaron Hurst

Abstract: In this Information-Age.com article, Aaron Hurst outlines how organizations can effectively automate the six Cs of continuous and collaborative DevOps principles which include: continuous business planning, collaborative development, continuous testing, continuous release and deployment, continuous monitoring, and collaborative customer feedback and optimization. Some advice he offers interested organizations is: start with release and deployment; continuously test release and deployment; remember accuracy is the key to trust; automate testing across multiple stages; identify and eradicate potential barriers; and monitor the performance of your applications.

Forbes | Three Tech Trends That Everyone Will Recognize By The End Of 2020

Publication: Forbes
Title: Three Tech Trends That Everyone Will Recognize By The End Of 2020
Author: Evan Kaplan

Abstract: In this Forbes article, Evan Kaplan, InfluxData CEO and Forbes Councils Member, discusses forecasting and predicts what comes next in the ever-evolving tech industry. He offers predictions of three trends that will be seen across the tech world by the end of 2020. The three trends Kaplan proposes include: enterprise technology buying will be led by developers rather than executives, enterprises will move beyond the one-size-fits-all database approach, and the next generation of businesses will leverage data from ‘dense’ instrumentation to fuel their growth.

VMblog | InfluxData 2020 Predictions: Developers Take The Reins in 2020 to Build Momentum Behind Open Source Software and Purpose-Built Databases

Publication: VMblog
Title: InfluxData 2020 Predictions: Developers Take The Reins in 2020 to Build Momentum Behind Open Source Software and Purpose-Built Databases
Author: Paul Dix

Abstract: In this VMblog article, InfluxData co-founder and CTO, Paul Dix discusses his enterprise predictions for 2020. He explains that with the growth of solutions tailored for different use cases and business demands, enterprise buyers have more choices and often entrust developers to make the decisions which were traditionally left to CIOs and CTOs. Due to this, he predicts that 2020 will see a trend towards open source software (OSS) and non-relational databases, as those are often chosen by developers for a number of reasons he discusses further in the article.

Title: For 2020, the crystal ball remains positively cloudy
Author: Paul Gillin

Abstract: In this SiliconAngle article, Paul Gillin agrees with the Year 2020 prediction of InfluxData CTO Paul Dix that a multicloud strategy, for most tech customers, will prove “worthless.” Gillin writes: “Most multicloud users I’ve spoken to were forced into their position due to acquisition or customer demand. If given a choice, they would prefer to pick one cloud platform and stick with it.” He describes Dix’s prediction as “refreshingly blunt.” Click the button to read the full coverage.
