InfluxData trademarks are valuable proprietary assets. Therefore, we require that all third parties using and/or referring to our trademarks do so in a manner which will minimize consumer confusion and avoid implying a relationship with InfluxData. Some of the most notable InfluxData trademarks include: InfluxData®, InfluxDB®, InfluxDB Enterprise™, InfluxDB Cloud™, Kapacitor™, Telegraf™, Chronograf™.

Before using any InfluxData trademark, please review the following guidelines, and our branding guidelines, and then fill out the online permission request form and submit a sample of your proposed use of the mark(s) as described below to [email protected]. Please allow ample time for InfluxData to review and respond to your request, which generally can take 4 to 6 weeks.

These guidelines explain proper and improper uses of InfluxData trademarks and are applicable to the use of our marks in any medium, including but not limited to: print, multimedia, and online materials.

InfluxData reserves the right to deny any third party’s request if that party’s use of the InfluxData mark may lead consumers to believe that InfluxData is the source of the product or service. Use of an InfluxData trademark without prior written consent may constitute trademark infringement and unfair competition in violation of federal and state laws.

PROPER Use of InfluxData Trademarks

  1. Adjectives: You must use InfluxData trademarks as adjectives. The purpose of a trademark is to identify the owner of a product or service; therefore a trademark should be used as an adjective to modify a noun. The noun is the generic name of the product or service.
  2. Titles: If using an InfluxData trademark in the title of your product, service, or publication, you must compose the title in such a way to avoid the appearance that it originates from InfluxData. Suggested Titles: “Mark’s Guide to InfluxData®” or “Tips and techniques using InfluxDB®” Product Usage: “ACME’s plugin for Telegraf™”
  3. Trademark Symbol: You must properly identify InfluxData trademarks by using the appropriate trademark symbol (® or ™) next to the mark.
  4. Attribution/Disclaimer: You must include the following disclaimer in a footnote to ensure proper attribution of InfluxData ownership:
[Trademark® or Trademark™] is a trademark [registered / owned] by InfluxData, which is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, this [product/site].
You must make the footnote clearly visible (i.e., appropriate type size, color, and placement) on all covers, packaging, advertisements, websites, and in other media as follows:
For print publications: the footnote/disclaimer must appear on the front cover, the back cover, and on the copyright page.
On packaging, labels, advertisements, and promotional material: the footnote/disclaimer must appear on the same surface as the InfluxData mark.
For websites: the footnote/disclaimer must appear on the website home page and on all internal web pages that include InfluxData marks. The appropriate footnote/disclaimer must be placed at the bottom of each respective page. NOTE: Merely stating trademark ownership credit and/or including the endorsement disclaimer in the “Terms and Conditions” or “Legal Notice” sections of a website does NOT satisfy these Guidelines.

IMPROPER Use of InfluxData Trademarks

  1. Possessive or Plural Form: Do not use InfluxData trademarks in the possessive or plural form (See Adjectives under “Proper Use”).
  2. Combined Marks: Do not combine InfluxData trademarks with any other trademark or design, (e.g., Apache and InfluxData) or use the marks in a manner which suggests ownership by a third party (e.g., ACME’s InfluxDB Guide).
  3. Company, Product, Service and Domain Names: Do not use or register, in whole or in part, any InfluxData trademark, logo, or alteration thereof, as part of company names, company taglines or slogans, social media pages, Internet domain names, website addresses, or metatags.
  4. Titles: Do not use InfluxData trademarks in the main title of your product, service, or publication, without identifying the source or owner. Incorrect Use: “InfluxDB Guide” Correct Use: “Sam’s Guide to InfluxDB®” and “ACME includes InfluxDB®”
  5. Appearance: Do not over-emphasize the InfluxData mark or use it more prominently than your product/service name. The InfluxData mark must be smaller in font, size, and color compared to your product/service name, in order to maintain a visual distinction between the two.
  6. Variations or Abbreviations: Do not remove, alter, or distort any element of an InfluxData trademark or brand feature, including abbreviation of InfluxData marks, in any way. For example, InfluxData Platform should not be altered or displayed as “Influx”.
  7. Implied Affiliation: Do not use any InfluxData trademark, logo or symbol, or any potentially confusing variation thereof, in any manner that expresses or implies affiliation with, sponsorship, endorsement, or certification by, InfluxData; nor may Third Parties use any InfluxData trademark in such a way that implies a legal association or partnership between InfluxData and their company.
  8. Slogans and Taglines: Do not use or imitate any InfluxData slogan or tagline.

Fair Use of InfluxData Trademarks

“Fair use” of a trademark is allowed without express permission when a third party simply refers to the InfluxData product or service associated with the trademark. In such references, you must be truthful, must not disparage InfluxData and/or any of its products and services, and must not mislead the public as to any implied endorsement by InfluxData. Note that reproduction of any InfluxData logo is not allowed under fair use.

Proper fair use should include the trademark registration (®) or ownership (™) symbol, and disclaimer:

Using an InfluxData trademark in association with a consumer product or service without express permission is not considered fair use. For example, “ACME’s InfluxDB” is not considered fair use.

Open Source Software

Most open source licenses do not grant, and many exclude, a license of trademark rights. Do not assume you can use the name of a source code base in the name of your distribution developed from that code base. Without a license or permission, you may not incorporate InfluxData trademarks in the name of your distribution or other products that incorporate open source elements. Truthful statements incorporating a trademark are generally allowed (for example, in the format “MyImplementation, derived from Trademarked ProductName”), for example “AcmeProduct, built on top of InfluxDB®”, but you should check the terms of the license for the original source code or any posted trademark guidelines for the project.

User Groups

InfluxData generally permits use of its marks in groups’ names that include phrases such as “user group,” “special interest group,” “lobby,” etc., that clarify the relationship between InfluxData and the group and do not create confusion about the source of products. This applies only to user groups that are not formally doing business as commercial entities. If you are administering a user group that includes an InfluxData trademark in its name, do not claim any trademark rights in the name or attempt to register the name or your logo with a trademark office, and do not register the name as a trade name or business name, or conduct any business under the name. Please avoid confusion that InfluxData does not specifically endorse or approve this meetup/user group. For example “InfluxData Meetup” is not acceptable, but “Meetup on using InfluxDB” is fine.

Domain Names

Do not use InfluxData trademarks or potentially confusing variations in your Internet domain name. This helps prevent Internet users from being confused as to whether you or InfluxData is the source of the website.

Logos

InfluxData strictly limits the use of its logos but might make an exception under special circumstances for partner and “powered-by” logos.

Third Parties Must:

  1. NOT use the InfluxData logo, the Cuboctahedron, or any other InfluxData logo or graphic in connection with products, services, publications, websites, seminars or conferences, packaging, advertising or promotional materials without an express written logo license from InfluxData.
  2. NOT use InfluxData logos on their website in association with a link to an InfluxData webpage. Links to InfluxData webpages may be included on a third-party web site, provided they are included as plain text links and are not used in any way that could confuse or mislead customers.

Built on InfluxDB Logos and Taglines

The “Built on InfluxDB Logos and Taglines” logo and trademark serve as a key market differentiator for developers and partners wanting to highlight that their product and/or service is using InfluxData’s products. Usage of this brand is controlled and can only be used with express written permission from InfluxData. All usages of this logo and tagline need to explicitly link back to https://www.influxdata.com/ or the applicable partner page (if applicable). Please send email to [email protected] for permission.

Google AdWords and Other Search Engine Marketing and Advertising

InfluxData DOES NOT ALLOW third parties to leverage its brand, reputation and trademarks in search engine marketing and advertisements, such as Google AdWords, Facebook, etc. InfluxData has decided not to create a list of authorized advertisers, nor make any exceptions at this time. It has been brought to our attention that some use of our trademarks may have been allowed in the past by certain parties without our permission. InfluxData has filed complaints requesting that online ad hosts and search engine marketers prohibit infringement of our trademarks by advertisers. Although there may be certain parties who are still not in compliance with this policy, InfluxData is making efforts to correct every instance when found.

Submission of Samples

  2. For Internet uses: submit copies of the website home page and webpage where the InfluxData mark(s) is/are first prominently featured.
