Kyungpook National University (KNU) is a national university representing Daegu Metropolitan City, the capital city of Gyeongbuk Province in South Korea. The Data & Knowledge Engineering Lab, also known as the DKE Lab, is a part of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at KNU. Their mission is to “solve real problems involving heavy data processing engaged in diverse areas.” They pursue high-quality, data-centric research in the areas of high-performance data-intensive systems, clinical data analytics, data mining, machine learning and blockchain data management with much of the research completed by master’s students.

The DKE Lab team at KNU is currently working on a project to develop a way to more easily manage the values of medical sensors that are measured in nanoseconds in order to identify obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) problems. The lab team deployed InfluxDB as their time series database to help capture data from medical sensors and machines, down to the nanosecond. Once captured, they were able to visualize the data needed to achieve their mission of developing an auto-scoring algorithm for OSA based on machine learning and the development of one-stop sleep apnea diagnosis and prescription report generation system.
