Dovecot Protocol Monitoring

Use This InfluxDB Integration for Free

Dovecot is an open source IMAP and POP3 email server for Linux/UNIX-like systems, written with security primarily in mind. Dovecot is an excellent choice for both small and large installations. It’s fast, simple to set up, requires no special administration and uses very little memory. Timo Sirainen originated Dovecot and first released it in July 2002.  The Telegraf input plugin allows for Dovecot monitoring.

Dovecot Basics

Dovecot developers primarily aim to produce a lightweight, fast and easy-to-set-up open-source mailserver.

Some of Dovecot’s most notable features include:

  • Standards compliant
  • Self-optimizing indexes
  • Self-healing (tries to fix most of the problems it notices by itself)
  • Tries to be admin-friendly by making common error messages easily understandable
  • Works well with clustered filesystems
  • Extremely flexible and feature-rich user authentication
  • Supports easy migration from many existing IMAP and POP3 servers
  • Supports workarounds for several bugs in IMAP and POP3 clients
  • Security-focused design and implementation
  • Easily extensible with plugins
