Publication: DZone Title: Why We’re Building Flux, a New Data Scripting and Query Language Author: Paul Dix

Abstract: In this article, published by DZone, InfluxData Founder and CTO Paul Dix introduces Flux, InfluxData’s new data scripting and query language, which was announced by InfluxData at InfluxDays London 2018 in June. The author begins with explaining the rationale for building a new language. Then he lays out the design goals of Flux: he notes that the language should be useable, readable, composable, testable, contributable, and shareable. He discusses the advantages of create a scripting language for InfluxDB 2.0 rather than implementing SQL (though InfluxData will  continue to support InfluxQL and TICKscript).
