F3 Engineering provides mechanical engineering solutions to hydropower and industrial clients across the West Kootenays, offering a range of services from design to project management. To stay competitive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, it was essential to optimize plant uptime at a low cost. It needed a real-time solution.

Since the costly legacy data historian used at the time didn’t offer any real-time capabilities, F3 Engineering decided to modernize its technology. The company selected purpose-built time series database InfluxDB as their real-time data solution for tracking, monitoring, and reporting on plant conditions. After modernizing with InfluxDB, F3 had the cloud-native data system its battery plant needed, including a comprehensive data logging and performance monitoring system using InfluxDB. The company added Grafana for data visualizations and automatic reporting to surface insights from its metrics collection.

InfluxDB’s real-time metrics, scalability, and flexibility significantly improved F3 Engineering’s operations and provided extensive visibility into their business. Significant cost savings from the new data collection engine allowed for more data capture, providing deeper insights. Moving data storage from on-prem to cloud storage increased data reliability. Finally, seamlessly integrating InfluxDB with popular tools such as Node-RED and Grafana made data manipulation and visualization straightforward and efficient.
