Plant Buddy: Real-Time Sensor Monitoring Demo with InfluxDB 3
Session Date: Feb 26, 2026
Time: 8:00am (PT) | 4:00pm (GMT)
How do you turn raw sensor data into a real-time system you can query in plain English?
In this talk, Suyash Joshi demonstrates Plant Buddy, an open source IoT project built with InfluxDB 3. The demo streams live sensor data into InfluxDB and enables both SQL and natural language queries using LLMs and InfluxDB 3’s MCP Server.
While the example focuses on plant health monitoring, the same architecture applies to application monitoring, system telemetry, and IIoT platforms. You’ll see a complete real-time pipeline, from ingestion and modeling to querying live data, ending with a live demo where we ask questions like “Is the plant healthy right now?” and get instant answers.
Key Takeaways:
- How to ingest and store real-time IoT sensor data in InfluxDB 3
- How to model time series data for low-latency analytics
- Querying live data using SQL and natural language via an InfluxDB MCP server
- Using Python and the InfluxDB 3 Processing Engine to derive system and health signals
- Automating health checks and real-time insights from streaming data
- Building simple dashboards and application integrations for real-time monitoring
- How MCP simplifies exploration of live time series data using LLMs
