Event Highlights: InfluxDays EMEA 2021 Virtual Experience

That’s a wrap for InfluxDays EMEA 2021 Virtual Experience! It’s always exciting to welcome back the InfluxDB community for this event. The conference included subject-matter-expert led courses, on-demand videos and live sessions. Check out all of the sessions recordings and presentations here. In less than a two-week span, we hosted the InfluxDays Challenge, two trainings and a 2-day conference dedicated to everything InfluxDB and time series data!

Trainings

Flux Training: InfluxDays EMEA 2021 kicked off on May 10-11, 2021 with our popular Hands-On Flux Training. Flux is InfluxData’s standalone data scripting and query language that increases productivity and code reuse. Over the course of two days, students learned everything from Fluxlang core concepts to advanced topics like User Defined Functions, passing by basic queries to manipulate time series data.

Telegraf Training: On May 17, 2021, members of the InfluxDB community came together for a virtual Telegraf Training. This course provided everyone with a fantastic introduction to Telegraf - the open source server used to collect metrics and events from your stacks, sensors and systems. It is InfluxDB’s native data collector with nearly 300 plugins!

Day 1 Highlights

Paul Dix provided an InfluxDB IOx project update. During his keynote, he gave an update on: project goals, InfluxDB IOx highlights, road to release and so much more. He also surprised the audience with his pink hair! (You’ll have to check out the recording to learn why it was pink.) There was debate about which color Paul’s hair should be for InfluxDays North America in the fall…

Andy Charlton showed the InfluxDB community how to manage their dashboards, tasks, and alerts with GitOps. InfluxData drinks their own champagne – the engineering team here uses this internally to keep various dashboards across a myriad of clusters in sync! After Andy’s session, he demonstrated the power of open source technologies by making the InfluxDB Stack Manager GitHub repo public!

Jess Ingrasselino’s data acquisition session filled the #influxdays-virtual channel in the InfluxDB Community Slack workspace with tiger emoji reactions – love Telegraf! Jess demonstrated how you can use Telegraf, Client Libraries, API, command line tools, the UI and Flux to bring data into InfluxDB. She also shared some best practices with the community

Vasilis Papavasiliou from Mist.io showed how you can use their platform to manage multicloud infrastructures. Mist.io’s solution is built on InfluxDB – the solution is powered by InfluxDB, Telegraf, Gocky and Cilia. We’re excited to see how Mist.io implements InfluxDB 2.0 and InfluxDB IOx into their backend.

Day 1 ended with InfluxDB IOx Office Hours and Trivia and Happy Hour. Paul Dix, Andrew Lamb and Edd Robinson were ready to provide the community answers to their burning InfluxDB IOx questions. Russ Savage and Samantha Wang ran multiple rounds of questions for a fun-filled game of trivia. Congrats to Øystein Middelthun for winning trivia!

Day 2 Highlights

Tim Hall and Ryan Betts started Day 2 with an InfluxDB roadmap and engineering update. They provided the community with an InfluxDB Enterprise, InfluxDB Cloud and InfluxDB Community update. Ryan made an amusing and powerful comparison: “It’s our goal to turn the [InfluxDB] platform into a hoover of time series data and simplify data management in the cloud.”

Aengus Rooney demonstrated the power of InfluxDB + Grafana with a fun cryptocurrency example! Check out his session to get an update from Grafana Labs about new functionalities including: a new unified data model and transformations.

Kristina Robinson leads InfluxData’s UI engineering team, and in her session, she demonstrated the various ways you can use InfluxDB Cloud to visualize your data. Use the Data Explorer and Notebooks to query your data. Use Flux, Downsampling Tasks and Annotations to analyze your time-stamped data. Use Checks, Notifications and Alerts to act upon your data.

Dominik Obermaier and Anja Helmbrecht-Schaar wowed the community by showing how to use MQTT Sparkplug, HiveMQ and InfluxDB to create an ideal industrial IoT monitoring solution. Check out their session to learn about the ideal architecture set up to ensure you’re getting the most from your industrial sensors.

Michael Hall wrapped up InfluxDays EMEA 2021 by providing an update on the InfluxDB Community. This community consists of 13,000 members worldwide with over 1,200 contributors. Congrats to the 2021 Built on InfluxDB Award Winners:

• Best Visualization: MOXIE IoT
• Best Application: Vera C. Rubin Observatory

After InfluxDays EMEA 2021 closed, the Grafana team stuck around for Grafana Office Hours! Conference attendees were able to ask their questions and converse directly with subject matter experts.

InfluxDays Challenge

We were excited to launch the InfluxDays Challenge as part of InfluxDays EMEA 2021. Attendees impressed us with their InfluxDB knowledge by completing a set of activities within InfluxDB Cloud. Participants learned new skills and showed off their InfluxDB expertise in the InfluxDB Slack workspace – specifically in the #influxdays-challenge channel. Congrats to the InfluxDays Challenge winners: Monish Basaniwal, Nidhin Kumar and Poul Sørensen! ????
